It is a good thing to make use of the rear seat belts since they are already available in cars. And it is normal for us human beings to complaint since they require some effort to put it on. And for small children who are still wearing dippers, mommies and daddies have to help them to buckle up. Not a problem at all. It is also a relief to know that a “big family” in a 5 seater passenger car will not get into trouble with the authorities, at least for now. But in long run, it is better to get a 7 seater MPV for a “big family”. Now, I hope the Government will continue to support and encourage “big family” (70 million populations in Malaysia) with more affordable MPVs (not the luxury type) and cheaper fuel since MPVs consume more fuel than the equivalent sedans. I have 3 children and eventually (2009) 4 and I speak for the “big families”.

admin: In the end, the sad truth is this very much depends on manufacturer discretion whether it is commercially viable for them. The govt can place in incentives but we cannot arbitrarily force them to manufacture MPV.

Let see how's Proton price their coming MPV.

Hi everybody,

Is this site dedicated to people who drive cars only or all motorists?

I drive my car to work but I use a bike to get to it sometimes bcoz I am bored of the jam. Like most of my friends, safety is an absolute must. Last year I bought an expensive Japanese made helmet. I bought it because the cheap Malaysian ones kept making weird noises and is heavier too.

I heard recently JKJR announced that all helmets without SIRIM certification are to be confiscated. Is this true?

What is the basis of this law/bylaw? Doesn't international accreditation sufficient or is Sirim's better?

By the way, there isn't enough info on JKJR's website about helmets. But I heard that enforcement has already been carried out.

********
admin: When it comes to specific law enforcement, best you check with JPJ to find out about this. Please remember that those half helmets (helmet kura kura) is banned totally irregardless what standard/certification it has. As for helmets that does have some kind of certification, best verify with JPJ if its equivalent to our SIRIM standard or not.

One of the primary reason for the ban of half helmet due to its design of not fully covering/protecting the head (the lower portion at the back of your head).

I do not agree with the compulsory seatbelt ruling and the driver taking the blame. I do agree with benefit of wearing rear seatbelt, however, passengers uncivility should not be blamed on the driver. Why don't the ruling people concentrate on how to avoid accidents in the first place. Some wrong is bigger than others and each should not be punished in the same range. I am someone with a large family and friends, sometimes your car get loaded with all type of people, hardheaded, non-civil etc. I don't like to receive summons for others stubborness. Like anyone would ask a close friend to get out of car for not wearing seatbelt.

Point is, concentrate on HOW TO AVOID ACCIDENT!!. A lot of ways here I could suggest, its the willingness of the ruling people that determines. You could split cars and motorbikes lane, improved the snakey roads and bad planned roads (no TOL please), enlarge thin road, incentive to civic minded road users (very cheap road-tax or insurance rebate), impose hard punishment for extreme/dangerous road user, & etc.

Ooo.. just another my bad advise, why don't make it compulsory for ABS brake system and the Air-bag to every vehicles also? Proton don't have it as standard? my bad.. This rule is just another immature idea for someone to get a name, THAT HE DID SOMETHING for accidents in Malaysia. his bad..

Is it really that hard to belt up?

What can we do outside the road..Even our enforcement on-duty don't bother it and let the rempit spin here and there..Don't believe it come and see it yourself. Location Klang towards Port Klang every saturday midnight around 1am. Road name Persiaran Raja Muda Musa. What you need to do is just sit at a stall with a drink and you can see ALL THE REMPIT and even 2 Petrol Car on-duty park their car at Petronas Gas Station chatting with each other. How to stop all this maniac ?

admin: It is easy to let the fingers run free and type behind a computer. As for the truth, only the writer of this comment will know. For me, comments like above needs to be taken with a handful of salt and requires solid proof to highlight the wrong-doing of our Malaysian sons in blue.

If I were you, i would gather proof and tell the world!

Comment on Why are Malaysian drivers so rude? by Puzzle

Talking about rude driver, I came across one this evening. I was driving along Taman Megah Mas. As the tunnel leading to Ara Damansara was closed for repair, this alternate road became heavily congested.

Adding to this, a lorry was parking besides the road on the opposite side. I had the courtesy to slow down to let the on coming cars moved into my right side of the lane to drive pass the lorry. However, there came this middle age and ugly man in his blue proton wira. Despite that the traffic in front of him is in a stand still, he still drove his car and caused a halt to both ways of the traffic.

I made a signal to warn the follow cars to stop so that some of us could move to ease the traffic. All the sudden, he winded down his window and shouted at me to be patience and followed by a 'F*** U' word. I was shocked at how self centred a person could be. First of all, who was not patience? The drivers that decided that they could just force they way to the other side of the road or the drivers that have been letting the cars from the 'wrong' side to pass.

Anyway I am not surprised as many occassions in Malaysia, you can find inconsidered drivers who parked their cars and caused inconvenient to others, or drive recklessly. What make they time much more precious than others. If their cars were scratched or damaged due to their selfishness, the action on the cars were deemed as 'vandalism'. What is the logic of this?

I think the Malaysia media and public has to come to realise what is right and what is wrong. If a car was damaged when it was parked at a illegal place, instead of potrait it as vandalism, the message should be illegal parking and selfish act of the driver... I hope our society will one day grow up...

As for the middle age, ugly and 'impatience' man who drive a blue wira proton... Your harsh comment, I only have one remark.. I bet you wish but not even in your dream. Yuck ...
